How safe is it for a man to put a ladder on the trunk of a big oak tree tie a rope?

You should substitute the word " stupid " for safe, because that would be your answer . You are asking a question about safety and you already know the answer If you weigh more then 100 lbs. and carry a chain saw up a ladder attached to a tree limb you are taking a very foolish risk of your life.No tree limb is worth the consequences that can happen with one fall or wrong move of the chain saw. Every tree cutter I have seen has safety harnesses and the correct size ladder.Using a limb for your safety is not the way to go.
