Would my line from my meter to panel been upgraded when the power company upgraded their line?
I'm about to start work on a 1912 house. It has a 100amp panel inside. I need to upgrade it to a 150amp to make everything electric inside. I assume the power company (Georgia Power) upgraded all their lines to handle 200amps so they wouldn't have to come out to every house when someone installed a larger box. Now my question is would they have messed with the line running from the meter to the panel? It looks like the same gauge wire running into the meter. The power is off at the street so I can't just hook a clamp on it to test it. Could I call the power company and would they be able to tell me?
The power company only is responsible up to the meter. Beyond that, to the panel, is done by the home owner or some one hired by the home owner. So the power co cannot advise you on that. You can have it inspected to see if the wire is adequate for the changes you have in mind. Besides, they will not turn the power back on until an inspector places an approved sticker on the meter socket.
