how does a rim drive work on a chainsaw?
im looking to get a rim drive for my husky 455 rancher. what i understand is with the power mate unit from oregon, it replaces the sprocket on the saw and i slip a rim on the power mate and it floats to align to the bar, now my main question is can i just buy a rim to fit over my sprocket or do i have to buy the power mate set up?
You have to buy the whole set, drum and rim. Once the rim is used up, you just replace the rim. While you are at it, replace the needle bearing as well. Doesn't hurt to have a new one there. Since you are converting from a .325" pitch to a 3/8" pitch, make sure you get the right bar as well.
