Which is better, Singer , Euro Pro or Brother for a beginer sewer? Looking to spend $ 200.?
My daughter wants a sewing machine for her 18th birthday next month. She curently uses mine ( A husqvarna Lilly 550) for now but will be leaving for college soon. I would like one that can handle heavy fabrics like denim. She does a lot of alterations to her clothing. I always used Singer before and do like them. It does not need to be computerized. I would like a drop in bobbin . I am looking to spend around $200. I don't want to go too cheap . Also, I would like to know which ones are not made in China. I'm looking for something she could possibly keep for many years.
Wow, your in big trouble if she's used to your Lilly. Thats a nice machine. I'm a Bernina tech that services all brands and I cannot think of any good Singer in the last 30 years. As far as that goes I cannot think of anything in that price range that isn't going to be mostly plastic with plastic gears. Thus not going to last very long for an everyday sewer. But it sounds like your going to have to find a NEW machine for her. For around 200.00. Thats going to be difficult but if it were me I'de be looking at the Janome's. At very least Kenmore which Sears sells and can service.
Really though you might try to talk her into a nice used Bernina, Viking, Elna, or Pfaff for that amount and have it serviced from a reputable service center, dealership, tech.
