I saw my neighbor beating his dog...but will reporting him do any good?
I happened to see my neighbor hitting his dog with a chain, punching, kicking, stomping his poor screaming dog today and it left me with the sickest feeling in my stomach. I filed an online report about it (everywhere I called, no one answered) but I'm afraid since there is no proof and the dog didn't seem physically injured after wards that nothing will come of it.
I live in New York if that makes a difference. Does anyone have any experience on what happens when you report someone for animal abuse?
REPORT THE ABUSE IMMEDIATELY TO enforcement@aspca.org or (212) 876-7700, ext. 4450. After business hours, you will be transferred to a voice messaging system and your call will be returned by an on-duty agent.
They should be able to tell from looking at the dog or by its behavior that it's been abused. And if they can prove the owner did it, they can possibly arrange that he can never own an animal again. You'd be a huge hero to not just this dog but all the future pets of this owner that will also suffer.
Please do it right away.
